My Classroom Management Philosophy

Picture
I have had the opportunities to work in classrooms that apply the concepts of PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports) and Dr. Becky Bailey's Conscious Discipline. It is my belief that combining the ideas behind both of these philosophies will ensure that students are set up in an environment of success. These philosophies coupled together with providing students with predictable routines will help students feel more confident and safe that ensures student learning.

Note: My classroom managment philosophy is still evolving for the reason that as I gain more experience in the field of teaching my classroom plan may change to reflect these new discoveries. Also, it may need to be altered to fit the specific group of students I am working with. For what works best with one group of students may not work best for another group of students.

"I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom. It is my personal approach that creates the climate. It is my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I have tremendous power to make a child's life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or humor. I can hurt or heal. In all situations it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or dehumanized."
